Bridge Adjustment
The cello's bridge is held in its upright position only by the tension of the strings. Under various conditions
the bridge may shift out of place and will need to be readjusted. The bridge's back face need to be
positioned in 90 degrees to the cello surface (or parallel to the tail)
(Fig 1b).
If it is decided that the bridge needs to be adjusted you will first need to make sure that the tension of the
strings is such that you will be able to slide the upper end of the bridge under light or moderate force.
You can also verify the proper positioning of the bridge by using any right angle object (index card
shown) that is small enough to fit between the strings
(Fig 1b).
Caution: Attempting to reposition the bridge when the cello is tuned may result in breaking the bridge.
