Performing NDMP Backups
4.
In the Automated Snapshot Deletion section, select when to delete the snapshot. By
default, NDMP keeps the snapshot to make incremental backups more accurate. The
choices are:
Delete snapshot after use
This will delete an automatically created snapshot after the backup, for which it
was taken, is completed. To prevent snapshots from being kept for any length of
time, select this option for full backups or if the file system is changing very
rapidly.
Delete snapshot after next backup
This will delete an automatically created snapshot after it has been used as the
basis of a new incremental backup. This option is designed to use with
"incremental" backup schedules. These schedules with an exception for full
backups are based on the immediately previous backup.
Delete snapshot when obsolete
This will delete an automatically created snapshot when the next backup of the
same level is taken. For instance, the snapshot taken for the full backup will only
be deleted when the next full backup is completed. This option is intended to use
with "differential" backup schedules. These backup schedules are new
differential backups which can be based on the same base backup.
5.
In the Maximum Auto-snapshot retention time box, enter the number (value between
1 and 40) of days to keep the snapshots before the system deletes them automatically.
Usually automatically created snapshots will be deleted according to the rule selected in
Step 4. However, if a sequence of backups, using automatically created snapshots, is
stopped then snapshots may be left over. The maximum retention time provides a way of
tidying up in these circumstances.
