LinkStation Compatibility
with LinkTheater
Buffalo's LinkStation – Network Storage Center can easily playback files contained on it to LinkTheater. If
you do not have a Buffalo LinkStation or do not wish to playback files from your Buffalo LinkStation, then
please skip to the next section.
For LinkStation to stream multimedia files to the LinkTheater, a LinkStation firmware that supports 'PCast' is
required. Some older LinkStations may not contain a firmware that supports 'PCast'. If that is the case then
please proceed with updating the LinkStation's firmware (instructions below). If you are unsure of whether
your LinkStation supports 'PCast', then please follow the following instructions.
Login to your LinkStation's Web Based Configuration. This is typically done by typing
http://NAME-OF-LINKSTATION into your web browser (where NAME-OF-LINKSTATION is the name you gave
LinkStation during setup). A login prompt will appear asking you for user credentials to login to your
LinkStation. If your LinkStation cannot be found, please consult the documentation that came with
LinkStation or contact our free 24x7 Technical Support.
At the login prompt, enter the proper username and password.
The username is always root and there is no password by default.
However, if you setup a password during your initial LinkStation
setup, then you must enter it in the password field. Once the
proper information has been entered, press the 'OK' button.
Once logged in, the main LinkStation configuration page will
appear. At the bottom of the page there might be a PCast
configuration area. If there is a configuration area named
'PCast', then you do not need the firmware update and you can
skip the firmware update procedure and continue to the
'Configuration of LinkStation' section. If no 'PCast' configuration
area exists, then you will need to follow the next step, upgrading
the firmware.
