Lift-Arc and HF TIG Stail Procedures
For The
Following
Processes
SMAW
(Stick)/GTAW (TIG)
With
Output
Switch
in
Lift
On
position,
start
arc
as
follows:

TIG Electrode

Workpiece
Touch
tungsten
electrode to work-
piece
at weld
start
point,
hold
electrode
to
workpiece
for 1-2
seconds,
and
slowly
lift electrode.
An
arc
will
form when electrode is
lifted.
Normal
open-circuit voltage
is
not
present
before
tungsten
electrode
touches
workpiece; only
a
low
sensing voltage
is
present
be
tween electrode and
workpiece.
The solid-state
output
contactor
does
not
energize
until after elec
trode is
touching
workpiece.
This
allows electrode to touch work-
piece
without
overheating,
sticking,
or
getting
contaminated.
With
Output
Switch
in HF Remote
position,
start
arc
as
follows:
High frequency
tums
on
to
help
start
arc
when contactor is
ener
gized. High frequency
turns
off
when
arc
is
started,
and
tums
on
whenever
arc
is broken
to
help
restart
arc.
