8.1 IDU Mounting Considerations
The Indoor Unit (IDU) must be located within distance of the length of the ODU/IDU cable supplied (10m
or 30m). Alternative cable length of up top 50m is available. The IDU should be mounted with the cable
connectors pointing downwards on a flat vertical surface (wall) which is sheltered from the elements
(e.g: water). The wall must be able to support the weight (1.35 kg, 3 lbs) and have adequate space for the unit
that is 250 mm (9.8 in.) x 190 mm (7.5 in.) x 55 mm (2.16 in.). Space must be provided for the following cables:
• Power cable
• ODU/IDU cable (Details in Appendix C)
• Ground Cable (details in Appendix D)
• Handset (3 max – not supplied)
• Ground cable for the IDU
The cables connected internally to the IDU (e.g.: power, ground, cable from the ODU) should be attached to
the IDU housing with strain reliefs. It is also advisable to protect the cable connection with external strain relief.
The cables that connect to the data and handset ports must have external strain relief.

IDU Power Supply Options
Power to the IDU must be 11 to 32 volts DC. The Iridium supplied power supply unit (PSU) can be used to
convert AC mains power to 24 VDC to run the Iridium Pilot Land Station platform. The PSU is able to connect
110 to 240VAC at 50 or 60Hz and is capable of supplying 50W continuous and 80W for .25 seconds at switch-on.
