Sierra Hybrid-Specific Noises
• Hybrids have normal, unique sounds (whirring, blowing,
humming) based on the various operating system com-
ponents and conditions
— Electric traction motors in transmission
— Electric air conditioning compressor
— Electro-hydraulic brake pump (recharges the accumulator
_ pressure)
— Electric cooling fans
— Electric contactor switches
Sierra Hybrid Unique Driving Characteristics
• When starting the vehicle, if a driver shifts the transmis-
sion before the vehicle start-up sequence is completed,
the engine may not actually start.
• Wide-open throttle transmission upshifts may feel
different than most vehicles (may seem sluggish from
one gear to the next).
• Transition from electric only to engine start may feel like
a transmission downshift.
• To avoid discharging the 12-volt system, recommend
starting the ignition and leaving the key in the On posi-
tion for operating accessory features for extended peri-
ods of time (radio, DVD, tailgating situations, etc.).
Sierra Hybrid Fuel-Saving Tips
• Avoid quick starts and stops by anticipating traffic flow.
• Use AC/Defrost modes only when needed.
• Minimize electrical accessory operation – use rear
defogger and heated seats only when necessary.
• Unload unnecessary cargo to reduce overall vehicle
weight.
• Regularly check and maintain proper tire pressure.

• Two-mode hybrid transmission transfers electric and mechani-

the output of two electric motors, functions as an electronically
variable hybrid transmission and powers the vehicle when in

• Electric drive is enabled up to approximately 48 km/h (30 mph),

Driver Side
• Regenerative fully blended four-wheel antilock disc brakes
TM for use the hybrid motors in the transmission acting as generators
to decelerate the vehicle by applying resistance while capturing
that energy as electricity in the 300V energy storage system,
which is then available for the next acceleration cycle. The
brakes integrate both friction braking and regenerative braking
for efficiency and strong braking performance
• Electric power steering runs off its own intermediate-voltage
continuous 42-volt power source. Variable-effort and a rack-
mounted motor help provide precise feel and easy maneuver-
ability
Interior
• 300-volt Nickel Metal Hydride Energy Storage System is
housed under the rear seats. The battery pack starts the vehicle
and powers the electric motors and several accessories. Depow-
ers if tampered with, for safety
• 40/20/40 front split-bench cloth seat includes storage armrest
and underseat locking storage with 12-volt power outlet. In-
cludes driver lumbar adjuster. Included on 1SH
