R-tronic Transmission
Hydraulic
Unit
The R-tronic transmission has an electro-hydraulic
unit which is located on top and a pressure reservoir
and hydraulic pump which are on the right side. The
hydraulic unit contains four valves for shifting gears, two
gear detection sensors, and a pressure sensor. The gears
are shifted and the clutch is controlled by an electro-
hydraulic system in the R-tronic. The system uses a
hydraulic circuit with a system pressure of 40 to 50 bar.

Reservoir
A pump driven by an electric motor runs for a few
seconds after about three gear changes or after one
minute of idling. The pump is almost inaudible while the
engine is running. If the car has not been driven for a
long period of time and the system pressure has dropped
below 580 psi (40 bar), the transmission hydraulic pump
and the fuel pump automatically turn on when the
driver's door is opened.
