This appendix provides application notes to describe the general format of data that can be accepted by the scanner
through the auxiliary port as transmitted from a handheld scanner.

Handheld Data Format Requirements General

9600 bps, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity.
RTS is used to "bracket" the data received from the handheld: RTS must be asserted high during data trans-
mission, and de-asserted after label transmission is complete. No other flow control mechanisms are required
or supported.
Symbologies requiring fixed lengths (UPC/EAN) will enforce length requirements for validation of the label.
Handheld will be required to transmit start and stop characters for Codabar and Code 39 labels.
Appropriate industrial length requirements will be enforced (if configured) for validation of the label.
Maximum label lengths will be enforced for label validation (i.e. labels longer than the maximum label size
will not be validated).
Standard Datalogic formats generally use a single prefix character. The specific formats are provided below.
