Preface Thank you for buying the biblio Leaf SP02 (simply called the "product" from here on). Before using the product, be sure to read the "Instruction Manual" (this manual) to ensure correct use. After you have finished reading this manual, be sure to store it in a safe place so that you can retrieve it whenever needed.

■ Precautions common to the main unit, battery pack, charging equipment, peripheral devices Be sure to read the following hazards before use. Be sure to use only the exclusive peripheral devices. Use of other peripheral devices might cause overheating, fire, rupture, fault, or leakage of liquid. Do not use or leave in places that get hot (near naked flames, near stoves, under the blazing sun, etc.) or in places where flammable gases are generated, for example, while filling up with gasoline at a gasoline stand.

■ Main unit Be sure to read the following warnings before use. Use of the main unit in an automobile sometimes affects on-vehicle electronic devices, though this rarely happens. If this happens, stop use since this may impair safe travel. Use of electronic devices that emit radio waves in an aircraft is prohibited by law.
■ AC adapter Mishandling might cause overheating, fire, electric shock, etc. Be sure to read the following warnings before use. Do not use at other voltages than the specified power supply voltage. Doing so might cause fire, overheating, or electric shock. Use only a domestic 100 VAC power supply for use in Japan. Firmly insert the AC adapter's power plug into the power outlet down to the base of its pins.

Names and functions of parts ① Stylus pen holder Used for stowing the stylus pen ② 6 (zoom in key)/ 7 (zoom out key) Resizes the font when you are viewing an electronic book. ③ 8 (power key) Pressing this key quickly activates/exits the screensaver. Holding this key down turns the power on/off.
How to use the earphone You can hear sound played back from electronic books on an earphone (sold separately) connected to the earphone terminal on the product. Insert the earphone's plug into the earphone terminal on the product Inserting/removing the battery pack and battery cover Before inserting/removing the battery pack and battery cover, be sure to turn the power off.

Insert the battery pack With the surface of the battery pack marked [+][–] facing up, align the terminals of the battery pack with the terminals on the main unit, and insert the battery pack in the direction of the arrow. Check the shape of the battery pack, and insert it making sure that it is facing the correct way.
Removing a battery pack Push down the knob on the back of the main unit Knob With your finger held against the battery cover, lift up the battery cover in the direction of the arrow Remove the battery pack Lift up the battery pack in the direction of the arrow using the protrusion on the battery pack.
Charging the battery pack There are two ways of charging the battery pack, charging by the AC adapter and by charging from a PC. Charging by the AC adapter The following describes how to charge the battery pack using the AC adapter (provided) and USB cable (provided).
Insert the smaller end of the USB cable into the USB connector on the product Insert so that it is horizontal with the connection terminal while checking the orientation of the terminal. During charging, the charging LED lights red and changes color to blue when charging is completed.
Basic Operations How to use the touch panel/stylus pen You can operate the product's display (touch panel) by lightly touching it with the tip of the stylus pen (provided). ■ Cautions when using the touch panel The touch panel has been designed to be lightly touched by the tip of the stylus pen (provided).
Activating the screensaver (sleep mode) You can activate the screensaver (sleep mode) to save battery power. Press 8 (power key) The screensaver is activated. To exit the screensaver, press 8 (power key) again. ◎ Note that pressing and holding 8 (power key) turns the power off. ◎...

Entering text The product has a software keyboard and a QWERTY keyboard for inputting text. To display the keyboard, select the text entry field and press 3 , or tap the text entry field. Using a microSD card You can insert a microSD card or microSDHC card into the memory card slot. • While data on a microSD card is being accessed, do not turn the power off or subject the microSD card to shock. Doing so might damage data. • Operation of the following microSD cards has been confirmed to be in accordance with in- house standards.
Copying data on a PC You can connect the product to a PC using the USB cable (provided), and copy data on the PC to the memory in the main unit or a microSD card inserted in the memory card slot. Connect the product to the PC using the USB cable Check the orientation of the cable terminal, and insert the smaller end of the USB cable horizontally into the USB connector on the product.
My Library (Electronic Books) Reading electronic books You can read electronic books in XMDF*, PDF and ePub formats on the product. * XMDF format data can only be displayed if the content is preset or has been downloaded with the product. →...

Setting the network The product supports the 3G network and wireless LAN. ◎ The 3G network and wireless LAN cannot be used simultaneously. Software Update The following describes how to update the software using a microSD card. Insert the microSD card to the memory card slot of the product in advance.
