Using the Formatting Utility to
Format a SmartMedia
Load the SmartMedia to be formatted into the

VU-V101.
2 Insert the VU-V101 into the floppy disk drive.
Click on Start → Programs → FlashPath →

FlashPath Format.
4 When you are ready to start formatting the
SmartMedia, press the Y key on the keyboard.
5 When the "SmartMedia formatted successfully"
message appears, click on the
corner of the window.
NOTE • Never remove that VU-V101 while formatting is in
progress as this could render the SmartMedia
useless.
• This procedure formats the SmartMedia as a "high-
density floppy disk".
• After formatting the SmartMedia, remove the VU-
V101 once before using it.
Power-save Function
To maximize the life of the batteries, the VU-V101 automatically
powers down if it is not accessed for 5 minutes after being inserted
into a floppy disk drive.
To resume power for the VU-V101 eject the adapter from the floppy
disk drive and then re-insert it.
If you want to use the SmartMedia in a camera, you
must initialize (format) the SmartMedia in the
camera.
