the last menu.
Display
Several choices for the display setting are offered:
LED Bright.: changes the LED intensity from dark to
light; this is effective for all backlighted keys and all other
display LED's on the front panel
Trace: Adjustment of the trace intensity (0...100 %) of the
displayed signal
Grid: Adjustment of the raster intensity (0...100 %)
If a soft menu item is activated, its menu text is blue highlighted.
With the left arrow button you can jump back to the last menu.
Device Name
In this menu item you can set a name for the HMF series. By
pressing the soft key a key panel will show. You can choose the
character via the knob and will confirm with a push. With the
left arrow button you can jump back to the last menu.
Device Infos
This soft menu item will show the instrument information like
serial number, software version etc. With the left arrow button
you can jump back to the last menu.
Self Alignment
The HMF series has an internal self alignment procedure in
order to achieve an improved frequency response and a more
accurate offset. The determined correction values will be saved
internally.
In order to start the self alignment please press Start. The
alignment procedure will take about 5-10 minutes. Each step

as well as the overall progress is displayed by a separate status
bar. After successful self alignment you will see an information
window (please refer to fig. 5.16).
The instrument must have reached the required operating
temperature (switched on for at least 20 minutes) and
all inputs must be unused, in other words all cables and
probes must be removed from the inputs.
To leave the self alignment menu please press Exit. You can
interrupt the running process with the Abort soft key (f.e. you
have forgotten to remove all signal lines from the inputs). In
any case a new self alignment shall be started afterwards.
If an error occurs during the self alignment although
it has been carried out as described, please send the
exported .log file (see Self Alignment menu) to support@
hameg.com. You can save the .log file to a USB stick.
5.4.5 System Settings
In this menu the load impedance (50Ω/ user defined, HIGH) and
the internal or external clock can be selected. Additionally, the
phase of two HMF which are connected to each other can be
synchonised with the soft key Synchro (please refer to chap-
ter 8.3.1). The lowest soft menu key opens a menu where the
trigger settings can be set. With the left arrow button you can
jump back to the last menu.
Please make sure, that the load impedance setting is
correct for the device under test! If the load impedance is
set to 50Ω, but the DUT has a high impedance the ampli-
tude on the output will be up to twice as high as the value
shown on the display and may destroy the DUT!
Submenu TRIGGER
In this menu the trigger source (Imm. / Ext.), the connector
TRIG OUTPUT (On/Off) as well as the associated edge settings
(rising / falling) can be defined. The trigger source can be set to
intern (immediately) or extern. In the mode Ext. 3 different
trigger options exists. The instrument selects / performs the
appropriate function automatically:
by pressing the blue REM/TRIG button a manual trigger
is initiating without an external signal source is needed,
sending the Remote command TRIG via interface,
depending on the chosen setting a positive / negative TTL
signal is generated on the front panel connectors TRIG
INPUT / OUTPUT.
