The pass-thru module is a Fibre Channel component that contains the following 20
ports:
• Fourteen internal transparent host (TH) ports to connect to the blade-server bays
• Six external transparent fabric (TF) Fibre Channel user ports to connect to
The IBM Flex System FC3171 8 Gb SAN Switch is a full-fabric Fibre Channel
component with expanded functionality. The SAN switch supports a higher speed
switch for IBM Flex System configurations and offers scalability in external-SAN
size and complexity, and enhanced system-management capabilities.
The full-fabric SAN switch has the following ports:
• Fourteen internal ports to connect to the blade-server bays in the IBM Flex
• Six external Fibre Channel user ports to connect to external Fibre Channel

You can manage and configure the switch through multiple interfaces.

To support each switch that you install in the IBM Flex System chassis, you must

The following types of optional devices are compatible with the IBM Flex System
FC3171 8 Gb SAN Switch:
