3.5 How to Tell If You're On the
Wrong Satellite
As mentioned previously, you can watch TV channels from three
DIRECTV satellites: 101, 110, and 119. But since the Program
Guide lists all of the DIRECTV channels together and does not
indicate what channel is on what satellite, how do you know
which satellite is carrying the channel you want to watch?
Different receiver models behave differently. However, there are
generally four ways to tell if the channel you've selected is
carried on a different satellite:
1. The wrong programming appears on the TV
2. "Channel Not Available" appears on the TV
3. "Buy Now" appears on the TV
4. "Program Not Available in this Area" appears on the TV
If one of these situations occurs, try switching to another satellite.
If you are in Automatic mode, press the control panel button for
the alternate satellite pair. If you are in Manual mode, press the
button for the second or third satellite.

A Note About HDTV Programming

If you are unable to receive high-definition channels on your HD
receiver, your receiver may not be activated for HDTV service.
High-definition channels are not included with the basic
DIRECTV package; you need to request that these special
channels be added to your programming package. Premium HD
channels, such as HBO HD, must be ordered separately.
