Assigning a Switch Name
Each switch in the fabric requires a unique name. You can assign names to easily identify the switch by
its physical location, its SAN association, or the organization to which it is deployed. The assigned name
is displayed in the command-line prompt. The switch name is limited to 32 alphanumeric characters.

Where Do You Go Next?

After reviewing the default configuration, you can change it or perform other configuration or
management tasks. The initial setup can be performed at the CLI only. However, you can continue to
configure other software features or access the switch after initial configuration by using either the CLI
or the Device Manager and Fabric Manager applications.

Guide.
Verifying the Status of the Switch
Before you begin configuring the switch, you need to ensure that the switch is functioning as designed.
To verify the status of a switch at any time, enter the show module command in EXEC mode. A sample
output of the show module command follows:

If the status is OK or active, you can continue with your configuration.
