How
to
test watertemperature:
Checkthe watertemperature
insideyourdishwasherwitha
candyor meatthermometer.
Letthe dishwasherrun through
onefill and pumpout cycle,then
letthedishwasherfill withwater
thesecondtime.
Whenyouhearthe waterstop
filling,unlatchthedoor and slowly
openit.
Measurethe temperatureofthe
waterin thebottomof thetub this
way:
Removethe silverwarebasketand
placea candyor meatthermometer
in the watertowardsthe middleof
thetub. If thetemperatureis less
than 120°F, y ouwill notgetgood
washingresults.Higherwater
temperatureis neededto dissolve
greaseand activatepowder
detergents.
Helpful hints: If outside
temperaturesare unusuallylow,or
if yourwatertrdvelsa longdistance
fromwaterheaterto dishwasher,
youmayneedto set yourwater
heater'sthermostatup. If youhave
notusedhot waterfor sometime,
the waterin thepipeswillbe cold.
Turnon the hotwaterfaucetat the
:;inkand allowit to run untilthe
wateris hot. Then start the
dishwasher. I f you'verecentlydone
laundryor run
hot water for
showers,giveyourwaterheater
timeto rccovcrbef'orc o peratingthe
dishwasher.

A rinseagentmakeswaterflowoff
dishesquickerthanusual.This
lessenswaterspottingand makes
dryingfaster,too.
For bestdishwashing
performance,use of a rinse
agentsuchas JET-DRY brand is
recommended.
Rinseagentscomein eitherliquid
or solidform. Yourdishwasher
usesthe solidform.

better.If the phosphatecontentis
low(8.7%or less),you'llhaveto
useextradetergentwithhardwater.

youhowhardyourwateris. So

Or yourarea'swatersoftener
company. J ustcalland ask them
howmany"grains"of hardnessis
in yourwater.
Howmuchdetergentshouldyou
use?Thatdepends.Is yourwater
"hard" or "soft"?Withhardwater,
youneedextradetergentto get

dishesclean. Withsoftwater,you
needlessdetergent.
Toomuchdetergentwith softwater o
notonlywastes-money, it can be
harmful.It can causea permanent
cloudinessof glassware,called
"etching."An outsidelayerof glass
is etchedaway!Butwhytakea
chancewhen it'seasyto findout
the hardnessof yourwater.
Keepyourdetergentfreshand
dry.Underthe sink isn'ta good
placeto storedetergent.Toomuch
moisture.Don'tputpowder
detergentintothedispenseruntil
you'rereadyto washdishes,either.
(It won'tbe freshOR dry.)
If'yourpowderdetergentgetsold
or lulnpy9 throwit away.It won't
washwell.Olddetergent o ftenwon't
dissolve.
If youuse a liquiddishwasher
detergent,theseprecautionsare not
necessarybecauseliquiddetergents
don't"lump" as theyageor come *
