ProtectsYourdishwasheragainst water backing up into it if a drain clogs.The air gap is not a part of the dishwasher.And you may not evenhave one. Not all plumbing codesrequire air gaps. If you have an air gap, checkit at least once a month. - Page 12 Utensilsmay not be secureon rack pins. Or somethingsmall may have dropped from the rack. Water is causingutensils to rattle. Make sure everythingis securelyplaced in dishwasher. Make sure water temperature is correct. (Seepage 6.) Unload the bottom rack first.
