What should my tension be set on when sewing 3 layers of cotton together? I have a dark color in the bobbin and a light color thread on the machine. The way I have it set, the dark thread is showing through on the top fabric.

To prevent dark thread from showing through the top fabric when sewing 3 layers of cotton on a Singer 5528, adjust the bobbin-thread tension slightly higher (turn the tension dial to a higher number) and ensure balanced tension between the needle and bobbin threads. Use the same size and type of thread in both the needle and bobbin.

The feed dogs on my machine aren’t moving the fabric. I sew mostly on shirt weight fabrics and haven’t changed anything. Maybe I need to oil/clean it?

The feed dogs on your Singer 5528 may not be moving the fabric due to the following reasons:
1. Presser Foot or Accessory Not Attached Properly – Ensure the presser foot or any attached accessory is correctly secured. 2. Stitch Length Selector Not Set Correctly – Verify that the stitch length is properly adjusted. 3. Lint Accumulation – Clean any lint or debris around the feed dogs. 4. Incorrect Needle Type – Use the correct needle style for the machine.
Check these factors and adjust as needed to restore proper fabric movement.

Hi! My 5528 jams after a couple minutes of use every time. It pulls thread down into the bobbin and chokes on it, causing the thread to bunch up. Any idea why this might be happening? My machine is clean, I've tried adjusting the tension of the thread and of the bobbin. My only other idea is to try getting a needle that the machine likes better - is there a particular needle you recommend for this machine? Or anything else you would try? Thank you!
Need help?
