    If your unit has been preassembled, check each step to make sure the unit has been properly assembled. FRONT HANDLE See Figure 2. n Remove the front handle, bolt, and wing nut from the Owner’s Kit. n Install the front handle onto the top side of the drive shaft housing and move it to a comfortable position.
  • Page 11 Slide the assembled edger guide over the tabs on the grass deflector and bracket. n Place the bolt through the slots in the tabs on the grass deflector and trimmer. NOTE: Ensure the slots are aligned before installing the bolt.

    Recommended fuel: This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline intended for automotive use. Mix Homelite Premium Exact Mix oil with gasoline according to the instructions on the package. If Premium Exact Mix oil is not available, use a high quality 2-cycle engine oil, mixed at 2.6 oz.
  • Page 13 CUTTING TIPS See Figure 9. n Keep the trimmer tilted toward the area being cut; this is the best cutting area. n The curved shaft trimmer cuts when passing the unit from right to left. The straight shaft trimmer cuts when passing the unit from left to right.
  • Page 14 Refer to “Edger Guide Assembly” earlier in this manual for additional information. n The edger guide allows the trimmer to be used as an edger for cutting along sidewalks, driveways, flower beds, etc. The edger guide is convenient to use and supports the trimmer as it is being used as an edger.
  • Page 15 DO NOT squeeze the throttle trigger until the engine starts and runs. STOP n Lay the trimmer on a flat, bare surface. BUTTON n PRIME - Press the primer bulb 7 times. n SET the start lever to the START position.

    Failure to do so can cause poor performance, possible injury and may void your warranty. You can often make adjustments and repairs described here. For other repairs, have the trimmer serviced by an authorized service dealer. SPOOL REPLACEMENT NEW PREWOUND SPOOL See Figures 14 - 15.
  • Page 17 STRING REPLACEMENT See Figures 16 - 19. n Stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug wire. Hold the string head and unscrew the spool retainer. To remove the spool retainer: Turn the spool retainer counterclockwise for Trimlite and Trim n’ Edge. Turn the spool retainer clockwise for Easy Reach.
  • Page 18 Drain all fuel from tank into a container approved for gasoline. Run engine until it stops. n Clean all foreign material from the trimmer. Store it in a well-ventilated place that is inaccessible to children. Keep away from corrosive agents such as garden chemicals and de-icing salts.
