Repair instructions
Cleaning and inspection:
• Clean and inspect all parts carefully. If there are
any cracks or other defects replace the dam-
aged parts with new ones. Lubricate the return
spring with light oil.
Tensioning the recoil spring

Fasten the starter cord in the notch in the pulley
rim and wind the pulley about 2 turns clockwise.
Check that the pulley is free to rotate at least
another half turn when the starter cord is fully
extended.

Replacing a worn recoil spring
WARNING!
Make sure the recoil spring does
not fly out and cause injury. Wear
eye protection.

Remove the bolt from the centre of the pulley and
lift off the pulley and spring.

Remove the broken recoil spring.

Fit the bolt through the centre of the pulley and
tighten to a torque of 2–3 Nm.
Tension the recoil spring, see "Tensioning the recoil
spring".
Starter assembly – refitting
1
Position the starter assembly on the crankcase and
tighten the bolts to a torque of 2.5–3.5 Nm.
