Changing the needle

Switch off the main switch.
To remove: Lower the presser foot
and move the needle to its highest
point. Now loosen the needle screw
(25) and pull the needle down.
To insert: The flat side A of the
needle must face to the rear. Lower
the presser foot and insert the
needle, pushing it up as far as it
goes. Hold the needle and tighten
the needle screw (25) firmly.

Set the required needle thread tension
(11) with the help of the mark B.
The normal setting for sewing is 4 to 5.
For free-motion sewing, darning and
buttonhole set the tension between 2 and
3.

Dropping the feed dog

For certain sewing work, e.g. darning or
free-motion sewing the feed dog has to be
dropped.
To do this, open the bobbin case/hook
cover and move slide C fully to the right.
Now the feed dog is dropped.
