Read the instructions and keep them safe.

Remove all packaging, but keep it till you're
satisfied the kettle is working.
important safeguards
Follow basic safety precautions, including:
1.Don't put the kettle, power base, cable,
or plug in any liquid; don't use the kettle
in a bathroom, near water, or outdoors.
2.This kettle must only be used by or under the direct
supervision of a responsible adult.
3.Don't touch hot surfaces. Use handles and buttons.
4.Don't open the lid while the water is heating.
5.Take care when pouring — pour slowly, and don't
over-tilt the kettle.
6.The scald hazard lasts long after boiling. Keep the
kettle, power base, and cable away from the edges
of worktops and out of reach of children.
7.Route the cable so it doesn't overhang and can't be
caught accidentally or tripped over. Wind excess
cable beneath the power base.
8.Unplug the power base when not in use, before
repositioning and before cleaning. Let the kettle
cool down fully before cleaning and storing away.
9.Check the lid is properly closed before switching the
kettle on, otherwise it may not switch off.
10.Check the kettle is properly located on the power
base before switching on.
11.Don't switch on unless the kettle is filled at least to
the min mark.
12.Don't fill past the max mark, or it may spit boiling
water.
13.Remove the kettle from its power base before filling
or pouring.
14.Keep the kettle, power base, cable, and plug away
from sources of heat.
15.Don't use the kettle for any purpose other than
heating water.
16.Use the kettle only with the power base supplied
(and vice versa).
17.Don't use the kettle if it's damaged or malfunctions.
If the power base or cable is damaged, replace the
power base, in order to avoid hazard.
household use only

positioning
Sit the power base on a stable, level surface. Route the
cable so it doesn't overhang, and can't be caught or
tripped over.
filling
warning Keep clear, steam will escape from the lid.
Check that the switch is off (press it up).
Remove the kettle from the power base.
Turn the lid knob 1-1.5cm (
the lid up and back a bit more than 45 degrees.
Fill at least to the min mark, but not above the max
mark. If you overfill, it may spit boiling water.
Close the lid and press down to lock it. Check it's
closed, or the kettle won't switch off when it boils.
switching on
Check that the switch is off (press it up).
Plug the power base into the wall socket. If necessary,
switch the socket on.
Gently position the kettle on the power base — take
care not to spill.
Press the switch down. The light will come on, and the
kettle will heat up.
switching off
When the water boils the kettle will switch off, the
switch will return to "off" and the light will go out.
To switch the kettle off manually, press the switch up.
general
Remove the kettle from the power base before pouring.
To avoid the risk of splashing, pour slowly and don't
over-tilt the kettle.
Don't tilt the kettle backwards, water might get on to
the control area. If this happens, let the kettle dry
before use — sit it somewhere warm for 12 hours.
When you lift the kettle, you may see moisture on the
power base. Don't worry — it's the steam used to
switch off automatically, which then condenses and
escapes via vents under the kettle.
You may see some discolouration on the floor of the
kettle. Again, don't worry — it's due to the bonding of
the element to the kettle floor.
insufficient water
This will shorten the life of the element. A boil-dry cut-
out will switch the kettle off. You must then remove
the kettle from its power base to reset the cut-out.
Sit the kettle on the work surface till it's cold.
Don't fill it till it's cold, or it may spit.
care and maintenance
Switch the kettle off (press the switch up), unplug the
power base from the wall socket, and let the kettle
cool down fully before cleaning.
Wipe the kettle, inside and out, with a damp cloth. You
may use a little household detergent, but if you do,
rinse well to avoid tainting the water.
Keep all connectors and sockets dry.
Don't put the kettle or power base in any liquid.

Don't use harsh or abrasive cleaners or solvents.
scale
Scale deposits may be white, coloured, or even rusty.
They overheat the element, reduce its working life, and
make the boil-dry cut-out operate prematurely.
As the element is mounted under the kettle, there are
no nooks and crannies to give the scale a foothold. It
can build up only where it can be seen and dealt with.
minimise scale build-up
Rinse the kettle with clean water and wipe its walls if
you see scale in the kettle, or a film on the water.
Empty the kettle after use. Descale frequently — how
often depends on the hardness of your water. Use a
descaler suitable for use in plastic products (even metal
kettles have plastic parts). Follow the instructions on
the descaler, rinse several times, then fill, boil and
discard the water, to ensure no residues are left.
nb Products returned under guarantee with faults due
to scale will be subject to a repair charge.
