    EMU01551 BATTERY REQUIREMENT Do not use a battery that does not meet the specified capacity. If a battery which differs from the specification is used, the electrical system may perform poorly or be overloaded, causing electrical system damage. Choose a battery which meets the following specifications.

The lanyard 2 should be attached to a secure place on the operator’s clothing, or arm or leg. Should the operator fall over- board or leave the helm, the lanyard will pull out the lock plate, stopping ignition to the engine.

    EMU00175 INSTALLATION Incorrect engine height or obstructions to smooth water flow (such as the design or condition of the boat or acces- sories such as transom ladders/depth finder transducers) can create airborne water spray while the boat is cruising. Severe engine damage may result if the motor is operated continuously in the presence of airborne water spray.

    EMU01547 BREAKING IN (RUNNING IN) ENGINE Your new engine requires a period of break- in (running-in) to allow mating surfaces of moving parts to wear-in evenly. Correct break-in (running-in) will help ensure proper performance and longer engine life. 8 Failure to follow the break-in (running- in) procedure may result in reduced engine life or even severe engine dam- age.

    While many additives available may reduce deposits, Yamaha recommends the use of Ring Free Fuel Additive, available from your Yamaha dealer. Ring Free has repeat- edly proven its ability to clean combustion deposits from inside the engine, notably the critical piston-ring-land area, and fuel sys- tem components.

    Do not attempt to diagnose any problems yourself. Instead, take the outboard motor to a Yamaha dealer. You should periodical- ly remove and inspect the spark plug because heat and deposits will cause the spark plug to slowly break down and erode.
