    Chapter 1: Introduction Chipset Overview The H8SSL-i2 serverboard is based on Serverworks' HT-1000 chipset, which func- tions as a HyperTransport SystemI/O Hub. The HT-1000 chipset provides high performance, scalability and reliability. Its HyperTransport architecture reduces IO bottlenecks to improve overall system performance. System memory controllers not part of the chipset but instead are integrated into the processors to decrease latency.

    H8SSL-i2 User’s Manual PC Health Monitoring This section describes the PC health monitoring features of the H8SSL-i2. The serverboard has an onboard System Hardware Monitor chip that supports PC health monitoring. Onboard Voltage Monitors for the CPU core, +3.3V, +5Vin, +12Vin, +5V Standby and Battery Voltage The onboard voltage monitor will scan these voltages continuously.
  • Page 17 Chapter 1: Introduction Slow Blinking LED for Suspend-State Indicator When the CPU goes into a suspend state, the chassis power LED will start blinking to indicate that the CPU is in suspend mode. When the user presses any key, the CPU will wake-up and the LED will automatically stop blinking and remain on.

    It is even more important for processors that have high CPU clock rates of 1 GHz and faster. The H8SSL-i2 accommodates 12V ATX power supplies. Although most power sup- plies generally meet the specifi cations required by the CPU, some are inadequate.

Installing the CPU Backplates One CPU backplate (BKT-0017L) is included in the retail box.

    1. Check the compatibility of the motherboard ports and the I/O shield The H8SSL-i2 motherboard requires a chassis that can support ATX boards 12" x 8" in size. Make sure that the I/O ports on the motherboard align with their respective holes in the I/O shield at the rear of the chassis.
  • Page 25 Chapter 2: Installation Support The H8SSL-i2 supports unbuffered ECC/non-ECC DDR2-800/667/533 SDRAM. Both interleaved and non-interleaved (single and dual-channel) memory are sup- ported. See procedure on following page for installation order. Populating two adjacent slots at a time with memory modules of the same size and type will result in interleaved (128-bit) memory, which is faster than non-interleaved (64-bit) memory.

Answer: The instant power off function is controlled in BIOS by the Power But- ton Mode setting. When the On/Off feature is enabled, the motherboard will have instant off capabilities as long as the BIOS has control of the system.

    Chapter 4 BIOS Introduction This chapter describes the AMIBIOS™ Setup utility for the H8SSL-i2. The AMI ROM BIOS is stored in a fl ash chip and can be easily upgraded using a fl oppy disk-based program. Note: Due to periodic changes to the BIOS, some settings may have been added or deleted and might not yet be recorded in this manual.
