TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS
ENGINE WILL NOT
START
1. Check battery and
fuse.
2. Check control
positions.
3. Check fuel.
4. Remove and
inspect spark
plugs.
5. Take engine to an
authorized Honda
servicing dealer, or
refer to shop manual.
ENGINE LACKS
POWER
1. Check air filter.
2. Take engine to an
authorized Honda
servicing dealer, or
refer to shop manual.
Possible Cause
Battery discharged.
Fuse burnt out.
(if equipped)
Fuel valve OFF.
(if equipped)
Choke OPEN.
Engine switch OFF.
(if equipped)
Out of fuel.
Spark plugs faulty,
fouled, or improperly
Spark plugs wet with
fuel (flooded engine).

Carburetor malfunc-
tion, ignition malfunc-
tion, valves stuck, etc.
Possible Cause

Correction
Recharge battery.

Move lever to CLOSED
unless engine is warm.
Turn engine switch to
ON.

plugs. Start engine
with throttle lever in
FAST position.
Replace or repair
faulty components as
necessary.
Correction
Clean or replace filter
