Gun Operation Troubleshooting

Problem
Excessive spray fog.
"Orange Peel" finish.
Fluid leaks from the fluid packing
area
Air leaks from the front of the gun
Fluid leakage from the front of the
gun
Gun does not spray
Dirty air cap
22
Cause
Atomizing air pressure too high.
Fluid too thin.
Atomizing air pressure too low.
Poorly mixed or filtered fluid.
Fluid too thick.
Worn packings or rod.
Air valve (21) is not seating properly. Clean and service air valve; see
Worn or damaged packing rod (26).
Worn fluid seat.
Loose fluid nozzle (7).
Damaged nozzle o-ring (7b).
Low fluid supply.
Damaged air cap (9).
Dirty or clogged fluid nozzle (7).
Damaged fluid nozzle (7).
Damaged fluid adjustment valve (25). Replace; see page 34.
Misaligned air cap (9) and fluid noz-
zle (7).
Solution
Close restrictor valve some, or
decrease air pressure as low as pos-
sible; minimum 40 psi (0.28 MPa, 2.8
bar) needed at gun for full voltage.
Increase viscosity.
Open atomizing air valve more or
increase gun air inlet pressure; use
lowest air pressure necessary.
Remix or refilter fluid.
Reduce viscosity.
Replace packings or rod; see page
29.
page 34.
Replace; see page 29
Replace fluid nozzle and/or electrode
needle; see pages 26 to 27.
Tighten; see page 26.
Replace; see page 26.
Add fluid if necessary.
Replace; see page 26.
Clean; see page 26.
Replace; see page 26.
Clean fluid buildup off air cap and
fluid nozzle seat; see page 26.
