Problem

Power Failures

You turn on the system and noth-
ing seems to happen.
Your LIFEBOOK notebook turns off
all by itself.
Your LIFEBOOK notebook will not
work on battery alone.
Possible Cause
The power adapter is faulty.
The main battery is com-
pletely discharged or there is
no power adapter installed.
The primary battery is
installed but is faulty.
The power adapter is not
plugged in properly.
The battery or batteries are
low.
Power adapter has no power
from AC outlet, airplane seat
jack, or cigarette lighter.
The power management
parameters are set for auto
timeouts which are too short
for your operating needs.
You have a battery failure.
You are operating on battery
power and ignored a low bat-
tery alarm until the battery is
dead and system has entered
Dead Battery Suspend mode.
Your power adapter has failed
or lost power.
The installed battery is dead.
Possible Solutions
Try a different Power adapter or install a charged optional second battery.
Check the Status Indicator Panel to determine the presence and condition of the
batteries. See "Status Indicator Panel" on page 19. Install a charged battery or a
Power adapter.
Use the Status Indicator panel to verify the presence/condition of the batteries.

that battery and operate from another power source or replace that battery.
Verify that your adapter (AC or auto/airline) is connected correctly.

Check the Status Indicator Panel to determine the presence/condition of the bat-
tery.Use a power adapter until a battery is charged or install a charged battery.
Move the AC cord to a different outlet, check for a line switch or tripped circuit
breaker for the AC outlet. If you are using an auto/airline adapter in a car make
sure the ignition switch is in the On or Accessories position.
Press any button on the keyboard, or move the mouse to restore operation. If that
fails, push the Power/Suspend/Resume button. Check your power management
settings, or close your applications and go to Power Options Properties located in
the Control Panel to adjust the timeout values to better suit your needs.
Verify the battery condition using the Status Indicator panel (see page 19), and
replace or remove any batteries that are shorted.
Install a power adapter and then push the Power/Suspend/Resume button.

Make sure the adapter is plugged in and the outlet has power.
Replace the battery with a charged one or install a power adapter.
