Handling Cartridge Tapes
Generally observe the following protocols when handling cartridge tapes:
S
Keep cartridges clean.
S
Inspect cartridges before each use.
S
Never put a damaged cartridge into a drive or storage cell.
S
Do not open cartridges or release the cartridge latch and pull out tape.
S
Do not handle tape that is outside the cartridge.
S
Do not expose the tape or cartridge to direct sunlight or moisture.
S
Do not expose a recorded cartridge to magnetic fields.

Inspecting Cartridge Tapes

A defective or dirty cartridge tape can damage a drive. If you suspect a problem
with a cartridge, inspect it for these defects:
S
Cracked or broken cartridge
S
Broken cartridge latch
S
Broken cartridge leader
S
Damaged write protect switch
S
Labels not firmly or neatly attached
