Transmission malfunction
Malfunction in selector lever position P
Only limited gear selection possible.
Transmission limp-home program
active with restricted range of gears,
possibly with reduced acceleration
Gears can be engaged without
depressing the brake
Automatic selector lever locked:
Selector lever locked in position P with
engine running or ignition switched on
and brake depressed
Lights up in red:
Transmission overheating
Lights up in yellow:
Transmission too hot
P is not engaged. Vehicle not pre-
vented from rolling
Selector lever position P not engaged.
Ignition cannot be switched off
Selector lever malfunctioning

What to do
Have the system checked without
delay. Make sure to apply the parking
brake when parking the vehicle
because the transmission position P
may be malfunctioning as well.
It may be possible to eliminate the mal-
function by restarting the engine.
After the engine is switched off, the
transmission is automatically shifted
into selector lever position P. It may not
be possible to continue your journey.
You can continue your journey, but
moderate your speed and exercise due
caution.
Have the system checked without
delay.
Always depress the brake to engage a
gear.
Overriding selector lever lock, refer to
page 58.
Bring the car to a stop and engage P.
Allow the transmission to cool down.
You can continue your journey, but

situation reoccurs.
