Disabling dynamic routing on the link.
The optimal use of the WAN link is achieved by disabling RIP and SAP over the
WAN link and establishing static routes and services over the WAN link. This
eliminates all routing traffic from the WAN link, optimising the available band-
width for data transfers. However, establishing static routes and services is only
practical if relatively few networks and services require accessing over the WAN
link. For larger networks, dynamic routing using RIP and SAP is required to keep
track of network topology changes.
An example of a cost reduced WAN example using RIP and SAP is described
