PREPARATIONS (1) How to load paper Paper can be set in three positions in total; two drawers in which paper can be loaded from the front of the copier, and the multi-bypass. It is also possible to install the optional paper feed unit (drawer-type or large- capacity deck-type).

Set the paper flush against the left-hand wall of the drawer, and position the paper so that it is aligned with the correct size scale (marked on the bottom of the drawer). * A sticker indicates how high paper can be loaded. Do not exceed this limits. * When loading paper into the drawer, make sure the copy side is facing upward.

PREPARATIONS Setting envelops in the multi-bypass When using the optional printer function, envelops can be set in the multi-bypass. Up to 20 envelops can be loaded in the multi-bypass at a time. BASIC OPERATION Basic copying procedure 1. Turn the main switch ON ( ). 2. Warm-up At the end of warm-up, "READY TO COPY." will appear on the message display. * If originals are set and the Start key is pressed while the copier is still warming up, copying will begin as soon as warm-up ends.

BASIC OPERATION 3. Setting originals 4. Function selection (page 17 to 48) Set originals on the platen or in the DF (document feeder). Select from the copier's various functions. When setting the original on the platen, adjust it with the original size scales based on the left rear position.
FUNCTIONS (1) Enlargement/reduction 1 Auto magnification selection mode The original image is enlarged/reduced automatically according to the selected paper size. * When using this mode, make sure that "AMS" has been selected in "0 AMS MODE" on page 59. 1. Set the original(s). The size of the original will be automatically detected and the same size paper as the original will be selected.
FUNCTIONS 2. Press the Preset R/E key. The zoom mode setting screen will appear in the message display. 3. Press the cursor up or down key to select the desired magnification ratio. The selected ratio will be highlighted. * The zoom ratio can be changed in increments of 1% from the selected ratio by pressing the numeric keys or the Zoom(+) and Zoom(-) keys.
FUNCTIONS 7. Press the Zoom(+) or Zoom(-) key to specify the ratio of the length. The numeric keys can also be used to enter the zoom ratio. 8. Press the enter key. 9. Make sure that "ENTER" has been selected and press the enter key. The message display will return to the "READY TO COPY."...
FUNCTIONS (3) Duplex copying from various originals [Duplex copy] Duplex copies can be made from two-page originals or one-sided originals with the optional duplex unit. Duplex copying from two-sided originals A two-sided original is copied onto both the front and back side of the paper. The copy looks just like the original.
FUNCTIONS 5. Select whether to rotate the back side of the copy 180 degree or not. 6. Press the enter key. The message display will be changed to the "DUPLEX MODE." screen. 7. Select the binding direction of the original. 8.
FUNCTIONS Page separation copies from two-sided originals Each face of a two-sided originals is copied onto a separate sheet of paper. 1. Set the original(s). * When copying from a book, set the book as illustrated. 2. Press the Page Separation key to light the indicator. The page separation copy mode setting screen will appear.

FUNCTIONS 9. After one original has been scanned, replace it with the next original and press the "#" key in the numeric keys. * Repeat this operation for all the originals. 10. When finished scanning all the originals, press the Start key. Copying will start. (12) Copying like a booklet (Book originals) [Booklet + cover copy mode] This mode can be used to make booklet-like copies with covers, either blank or with an image.
FUNCTIONS 4. Press the cursor up or down key to specify the binding direction. 5. Press the enter key. 6. Press the cursor down or up key to select whether to copy onto the front cover or not. 7. Press the enter key. When setting the original on the platen, go to the next step.

FUNCTIONS 1. Press the Image key to light the indicator. The function selection screen will appear. 2. Press the cursor down key to select "OVERLAY", and press the enter key. The form overlay setting screen will appear. 3. Press the cursor down or up key to select the copy exposure of the overlay original.
FUNCTIONS 8. Replace the original after one original has been scanned, and press the Start key. Copying will start. * If more originals are to be copied, set other originals in the same manner. (14) Inverting black and white [Invert copy] Black and white areas of the image are inverted (reversed) when copied.
FUNCTIONS 3. Press the cursor down or up key to select "MIRROR". 4. Press the enter key. 5. Make sure that "ENTER" has been selected and press the enter key. The message display will return to the "READY TO COPY." screen. (16) Printing page numbers on copies [Print page numbers] When copies are made from multiple originals, it is possible to assign page numbers in numerical order from the first of original.
FUNCTIONS 6. Press the enter key. 7. Press the Start key. Scanning of the originals will start. When setting the original in the DF, copying will be performed. When setting the original on the platen, go to the next step. 8.
FUNCTIONS 4. Press the cursor down or up key to specify the type of originals. Select "1- SIDED" for a 1-sided original and "2-SIDED" for a 2-sided original. 5. Press the enter key. If the copier is equipped with the duplex unit, go to the next step. If not, go to step 8.
FUNCTIONS * If "ON" is set in "^ ROTATE SORT" on page 60, and the paper size is A4, the orientation of each set of copies is changed, thus making copies easy to handle. To use this setting, A4 paper must be set lengthwise in one drawer and widthwise in the other.
FUNCTIONS 2. Press the */Language key. The management mode setting screen will appear. 3. Make sure that "PROGRAM REGISTRATION" is selected and press the enter key. 4. Press the cursor down or up key to select the program number in which to register settings.
FUNCTIONS (20) Recall mode When setting the copy mode, content of the setting can be confirmed. 1. Press the Program key. 2. Make sure that "RECALL" is selected and press the enter key. 3. Press the cursor right or left key to display the content of the setting on the message display.
FUNCTIONS * To resume copying after the energy saver (preheat) function has been activated, press the Energy Saver key again. It takes about 30 seconds for the copier to recover from the energy saver (preheat) function. * The auto energy saver function can be set to trigger after no copying has been done for a certain period of time.
COPIER MANAGEMENT (1) Copy management The total number of copies made by each department can be managed using 4-digit codes for up to 500 departments. COPIER MANAGEMENT 2. Press the cursor down key to select "DEFAULT". 3. Press the enter key. 4. Enter the 4-digit management code "3100" with the numeric keys. * The 4-digit management code can be changed. (See "8 MANAGEMENT CODE ENTRY" on page 64.) 5.
COPIER MANAGEMENT 8. Enter the maximum number of copies with the numeric keys. Limits are set in units of 1000's, up to a maximum of 999,000. * Entering "0" enables unlimited copying. * If the Stop/Clear key is pressed, the registered ID-code is cleared and a new ID-code can be entered.
COPIER MANAGEMENT 9. Make sure that "END" has been selected and press the enter key. The message display will return to the screen in step 4. 10. Press the cursor up key to select "END", and press the enter key. The message display will return to the screen in step 2.

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT (1) DF (Document feeder) Automatically feeds multiple sheet originals one by one. Two-sided originals are automatically turned over and scanned. For details, see the instruction handbook of the DF. Auto selection mode Automatically detects the size and brightness of every original without selecting a paper size with the Paper Select key.

OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT (11) Key counter The key counter determines the number of copies that have been made. It is useful for copier centralized management on a department or even company level. Setting the key counter Insert the key counter securely into the key counter opening. * When the key counter function is used, copies cannot be made unless the key counter is inserted into the copier.

REPLACING THE TONER CARTRIDGE Replace the toner cartridge only when "ADD TONER TO RESUME COPYING" is displayed. CAUTION Do not incinerate toner and toner containers. Dangerous sparks may cause burn. 1. Open the front cover. 2. Turn the toner cartridge release lever rightward as far as it will go. The old cartridge will come free.
WHEN PAPER MISFEEDS If a paper misfeed occurs, copying will stop. A misfeed message will appear on the operation panel and misfeed locations will be indicated there also. Remove the misfed paper referring "(3) Removal procedures", with the main switch in the ON ( | ) position. Multi-Bypass The multi-bypass described on page 8 and page 12 (⁄ on page 8) is an optional equipment. When copying onto transparencies or paper which cannot be set in the drawer, install the multi-bypass.
