Appendix A: Router Configuration

Router configuration for the Ethernet disk varies depending on

the brand and model of router connecting your Ethernet disk to

your network and the Internet. Below are instructions for config-

uring three common brands of routers.

Before beginning router configuration you will need the IP ad-

dress of your Ethernet disk.

ImpOrTANT INfO:

To allow you to use your HipServ™ re-

motely from the Internet, and to allow you to share content with

friends and family, your Ethernet disk uses UPnP to forward cer-

tain ports to itself. This negotiation is done automatically during

the Router Configuration step in Setup. You only need to com-

plete the steps below if your router does not support UPnP.
