Placethe bottomholesin lowerhandleoverthe pinson the handlebracketsand securewith hairpinclips. See Figure2. b. insert carriagescrewsthroughupperhole in lowerhandlefrom the inside and securewith wingnuts.See Figure2. 2. a.     MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE Before performing anytypeofmaintenance/service, disengage all Followthe maintenance schedulegiven below.This chart describes controls and stoptheengine. Usethe ServiceLog columnto keeptrackof a completestop.Disconnect sparkplugwireandgroundittoprevent completedmaintenance tasks.To locate the nearest Sears Service unintended starting. A lwayswearsafetyglasses duringoperation or while Centeror to scheduleservice,simplycontactSearsat 1-800-4-MY-HOME®.
  • Page 17 Servicing the Air Cleaner Do notuse pressurizedair or solventsto cleanthe air cleaner cartridge. Theair cleanerpreventsdamagingdirt, dust,etc.,from enteringthe carburetor and beingforced intothe engineand is importantto engine life and performance. T heair cleanerconsistsof a pleatedfilter. Never run the enginewithoutan air cleanercompletely assembled. Cleanor replacetheair cleanerevery 25 hoursof operation.

    Carburetor Adjustment ../ Thecarburetoron this engineis not useradjustable.ContactSears Parts & Repairforadjustment, Engine Speed Do not,attempt t o alterthe enginespeedby tamperingwith the engines governorlinkage.Doingsocould resultin seriouspersonal I injuryand damageto the engine.The engineRPM hasbeen set at thefactory. LUBRICATION • Wheels- Placea fewdrops of SAE30 oil on eachshoulderscrew oncea season.
  • Page 19 Removehexscrewon top of rear housingnear mountingbracket and the flangelock nutthat securesflail screen.See Figure20. Removeand cleanthe screenby scrapingor washingwith water. See Figure21. Reinstallthe screen. Beforeperforminganytype of maintenance on the machine,wait for all parts to stop movingand disconnectand groundthe sparkplug wire. Failureto follow this instructioncould resultin personalinjuryor propertydamage.
  • Page 20 SHARPENING OR REPLACING CHIPPER BLADE NOTE:Beforetippingthe unit, emptythefuel tank by runningengine untiltank isdry, and emptythe oil reservoiras describedinTo Drain Oil. Disconnectand groundthe spark plugwire. Removebagassemblyor blowerchute. Removethe three hexcap screwsholdingthe chipperchuteto the upperhousing.See Figure23. Removethe front hubcaps,flangelock nuts,front wheels,and wavewashersthat attachto the pivotarm assemblies.See Figure Removethe shoulderscrews,thrustwashers,and bell washers that go throughthe pivotarmsto the front supportbrace.The front supportbraceand lock nut can be removedat this time as well.
