20. loosen the carriage bolts securing the motor
mounting brackets (see figure 17), let the
motor slide down to tension the V-belt, then
retighten the carriage bolts.

Note: When properly tensioned, there is
approximately ⁄ " deflection of the V-belt as

moderate pressure is applied midway between
the pulleys, as illustrated in Figure 18. If
necessary, apply downward pressure on the
motor to attain the proper V-belt tension.

The belt guard MuST be installed before
operating the jointer or else the moving
v-belt will be exposed, creating an entangle-
ment hazard at the back of the jointer.
