If an outside antenna isconnected t o the receiver, besuretheantenna
systemis grounded so asto provide someprotection against voltage
surges andbuiltupstaticcharges. Article 810 of the NationalElectrical
Code,ANSI/NFPA 70, providesinformation with respectto proper
grounding o f themastand supporting structure, grounding ofthelead
in wire to an antennadischarge unit, sizeof grounding conductors,
location ofantenna discharge unit,connection t ogrounding e lectrodes,
endrequirements f orthegrounding electrode.
Anoutside antenna system should notbe located inthevicinity of over-
headpowerlinesor otherelectric lightor powercircuits, o r whereit
can fall into suchpowerlinesor circuits. W heninstalling an outside
antenna systemextreme careshouldbe taken to keepfrom touching
such powerlinesor circuitsas contactwith them might be fatal.
