The D300 offers a choice of 51
focus points that together
cover a
wide area of the frame. The focus
point can be selected manually,
allowing
photographs
to be
composed
with the main subject
positioned
almost anywhere
in the
frame (single-point
and dynamic-
AF-area mode selector
area AF), or automatically
(auto-area AF; note that manual focus
point detection
is not available when auto-area AF is selected).
To
select the focus point manually:

Rotate the focus selector
lock to O.
This allows the multi selector to
be used to select the focus
point.

Select the focus point.
Use the multi selector to select
the focus point.
At default
settings, the center focus point
can be selected by pressing the
center of the multi selector.
The focus selector lock can be
rotated to the locked (/)

position
following
selection to
prevent the selected focus
point from changing
when the multi selector is pressed.
