iNSTALLiNG THE WATER LiNE
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Recommended copper water supply kits are WX8X2,
WX8X3 or WX8X4, depending on tile

GE SmartConnect _'' Refiigemtor Tubing (WX08X10002,
WX08X10006, WX08X10015 and WX08X10025).
When connecting yore refiigemtor to a GE Reverse
Osmosis Water System, tile only appr(wed installation
is with a GE RVKit. For other reverse osnlosis water
systems, follow tile manufi_cmrer's recommendations.
If the water supply to the refiigerator is flom a Reverse

Nso has a water filte_; use the ref?igerator's filmr bypass
plug. Using the refligerator's water filtration cartridge in
coi_iuncfion with the RO filter can result in hollow ice
cubes and slower water flow flom tile wamr dispenser
This wamr line installation is not warranted by tile
refligerator or icelnaker manuf_tcmrer Follow these
instructions careflflly to minimize tile risk of expensive
water damage.
Water hamlner (water banging in tlle pipes) in house
plumbing can cause damage to refligerator parts and
lead to water leakage or flooding. Call a quNified
plumber to correct water bamlller before installing
tile water supply line to tile refligerator.
To prevent burns and product damage, do not hool<
up the water line to tile hot water line.
If you use your refligemtor before connecting tile water
line, make sure tile icemaker power
switch is in the OFF
position.
Do not install tile icemaker robing in areas where
temperatures fh/1 below fieezing.

Refrigerator Tubing
kit, 1/4"
outer
diameter to connect tile refiigerator
to tile water supply. If using coppm; be sure both
ends of tile tubing are cut square.
To determine how much robing you need: measure
tile distance flom the water valve on tlle back of the
refiigerator to tlle water supply pipe. Be sure there is
sufficient extra tubing to allow tile refligerator to move
out flom tile wall after installation.
GE SmartConnect _'' Refligerator Tubing Kits are
available in the fbllowing lengths:
2' (0.6 m) - WX08X10002
6' (1.8 m) - WX08X10006
15' (4.6 m) - WX08X10015
25' (7.6 m) - WX08X10025
WHAT YOU WiLL NEED (CONT.)
NOTE: The only GE approved plastic tubing is that
supplied in GE SmartConnect
TM
Refrigerator Tubing
kits. Do not use any other plastic water supply line
because the line is under pressure at all times. Certain
types of plastic will crack or rupture ,with age and
cause water damage to your home.
* A GE water supply kit (containing tubing, shutoff
valve and fittings listed below) is available at extra
cost flom your dealer or flom Parts and Accessories,
800.626.2002.
e A cold water supply. The water pressme must be
between 20 and 120 p.s.i. (1.4-8.2 bar) on models
without a water filter and between 40 and 120 p.s.i.
(2.8-8.2 bar) on models with a water filter.
e Power drill.
e 1/2" or adjustable wrench.
e Straight and Phillips blade screwdriver.
• Two 1/4" outer diameter compression nuts and
2 ferrules (sleeves)--to connect tile copper robing
to tile shutoff valve and tile refligerator water vane.
OR
• If you are using a GE SmartConnecff M Refligerator
Tubing kit, the necessa_ T fittings are preassembled to
the tubing.
• If your existing copper water line has a flared fitting
at the end, you will need an adapter (available at
plumbing supply stores) to connect the water line to
tile refligerator OR you can cut off tlle flared fitting
with a tube cutter and then use a compression
fitting. Do not cut formed end fiom GE
SmartConnect
TM
Refligemtor robing.
• Shutoff valve to connect to tile cold water line.
Tile shutoff valve should have a water inlet with a
minimum inside diameter of 5/32" at tile point of
connection to tile COLD WATER LINE. Saddle-type
shutoff valves are included in many water supply Mrs.
Before purchasing, make sure a saddle-type vane
complies with your local plumbing codes. Install the
shutoff vane on the nearest flequent/y used drinking
water line.
