TO START ENGINE
When starting the enginefor the first time
or if the engine has run out of fuel, it will
take extra cranking time to movefuel from
the tank to the engine.
1. Be sure freewheelcontrol is in the
transmissionengaged position.
2. Sit on seat in operatingposition,
depress clutch/brakepedatand set
parkingbrake.
3. Placemotioncontrol leverin neutral
(N) position.
4. Moveattachmentclutch to disengaged
position.
5. Movethrottle controlto choke position.
NOTE: Beforestarting, readthe warm
and cold starting proceduresbelow.
6. Insert key into ignitionand turn key
clockwiseto start positionand release
key as soon as enginestarts. Do
not run starter continuouslyfor more
than fifteen seconds per minute.If the
engine does not start after several
attempts,movethrottle control to fast
position,wait a few minutesand try
again. If enginestill does not start,
movethe throttle control backto the
choke positionand retry.
WARMWEATHERSTARTING(50° F and
above)
7. When enginestarts, movethe throttle
controlto the fast position.
The attachmentsand grounddrive can
now be used.If the enginedoes not
acceptthe load,restart the engineand
allow it to warm up for one minuteusing
the choke as describedabove.
COLDWEATHERSTARTING( 50° F and
below)
7. When enginestarts, allow engine
to run with the throttle control in the
choke positionuntil the engine runs
roughly,then movethrottle control
to fast position.This may requirean
enginewarm-up periodfrom several
seconds to several minutes,depending
on the temperature.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONWARM UP
Beforedriving the unit in cold weather,
the transmissionshould be warmed up as
follows:
1. Be sure the tractor is on level ground.
2. Place the motioncontrol leverin
neutral.Releasethe parkingbrake
and let the clutch/brakeslowly return
to operatingposition.
3. Allow one minutefor transmissionto
warm up.This can be done during
the enginewarm up period.
The attachmentscan also be used dur-
ingthe enginewarm-up period after the
transmissionhas been warmed up.
NOTE: If at a high altitude (above3000
feet)or in cold temperatures(below32 F)
the carburetorfuel mixturemay needto
be adjustedfor best engine performance.
(See "TOADJUST CARBURETOR"in the
Serviceand Adjustmentssection of this
manual.)
PURGE TRANSMmSSION
Toensure proper operationand per-
formance,it is recommendedthat the
transmissionbe purged beforeoperating
tractorfor the first time.This procedurewill
removeany trapped air insidethe trans-
missionwhich may havedevelopedduring
shipping of your tractor.
mMPORTANT: Shouldyour transmission
require removalfor serviceor replace-
ment, it should be purged after reinstall-
ation beforeoperatingthe tractor.
1. Place tractorsafely in an area that is
flat for approximately80 feet in front of
the tractorand set the parking brake.
2. Sitting in the tractor seat, start engine.
After the engine is running, move
throttle controlto slow position.With
motioncontrol leverin neutral (N)
position,slowly disengageclutch/brake
pedal.
3. Slowly move motioncontrol leverto
full forward positionand hold for five
(5) seconds,or approximately40 feet.
Slowly move leverto full reverseposi-
tion and hold for five (5) seconds,or
approximately20 feet. After the tractor
movesapproximately20 feet in reverse
return the motioncontrol leverto the
neutral (N) position.Repeat this proce-
dure three (3) times.
Yourtransmissionis now purged and now
readyfor normal operation.
