TROUBLESHOOTING CHART
CAUSE
PROBLEM
Will not start
• Out of fuel.
• Engine not "CHOKED"
properly.
• Engine flooded.
Hard to start
Engine will not tum
over
Engine clicks but
will not start
• Bad spark plug.
• Dirty air filter.
• Dirty fuel filter.
• Water in fuel.
• Loose or damaged
wiring.
• Carburetor
out of adjust-
ment.
• Engine valves out of ad-
justment.
• Dirty air filter.
• Bad spark plug.
• Weak or dead battery.
• Dirty fuel filter.
• Stale or dirty fuel.
• Loose or damaged
wiring.
• Carburetor
out of adjust-
ment.
• Engine valves out of ad-
justment.
• Clutch/brake pedal not
depressed.
• Attachment clutch is en-
gaged.
• Weak or dead battery.
• Blown fuse.
• Corroded battery termi-
nals.
• Loose or damaged wiring.
• Faulty ignition switch.
• Faulty solenoid or starter.
• Faulty operator presence
switch(es).
• Weak or dead battery.
• Corroded battery termi-
nals.
CORRECTION
• Fill fuel tank.
• See "TO START ENGINE" in
Operation
section.
• Wait several minutes before
attempting to start.
• Replace spark plug.
• Clean/replace
air filter.
• Replace fuel filter.
• Drain fuel tank and carbure-
tor, refill tank with fresh
gasoline and replace fuel fil-
ter.
• Check all wiring.
• See =To Adjust Carburetor"
in Service and Adjustments
section.
• Contact an authorized ser-
vice center.
• Clean/replace
air filter.
• Replace
spark plug.
• Recharge
or replace battery.
• Replace fuel filter.
• Drain fuel tank and refill with
fresh gasoline.
• Check all wiring.

in Service and Adjustments
section.
• Contact an authodzed
ser-
vice center.
• Depress
clutch/brake
pedal.
• Disengage
attachment
clutch.
• Recharge
or replace battery.
• Replace fuse.
