TO ADJUST CARBURETOR
The carburetor has been presetat the factory
and adjustment should not be necessary.
However, minor adjustment may be required
to c(_npensate for differences in fuel,
temperature,allJtudeor load. Ifthe carburetor
does need adjustment, proceed as folows:
In general, tuming the adjustingneedles In
(dockwLse)decreases the supply of fuel to
the enginegMng a leaner fuel/air mixture.
Tumingthe adjustingneedes out (counter-
clodw_se)increases the supplyof fuelto the
engine giving a richer fueVairmixture.
IMPORTANT: Damage to the needlesand
seatsin carburetor may result if turnedin too
ti_t.
NOTE: The carburetor on thisengineis low
emission, if is equipped with an idle fuel
aclusting needle with a imiter cap, which
alows some adjus'cnant withinthe limits
alowed bythe cap. Do not attemptto remove
the limitercap. The limitercap cannot be
removed without breaking the a_usting
needle.
1. Besure you have a clean air filterand the
throttlecootrolcable is adjustedproperly
(see above).
2. Start engine and alow to warm for five
minutes. Make adjustments with engine
running and shiftttoolJoncontrol lever in
neutral(N) pesi_on.
3. Idlest_=edsetting. Withthrottle control
lever in slow pos_on, engine should kJe
at 1750 RPM. If engine idles too s!ow or
fast, tum idle speed adjusting screw in or
out antJlcorrect idle is attained.
4. Idlefuelneedle set, rig- Withl_ret'_
contrel lever inslowposi_on, turn ide fuel
a_ustmant needle In (clockwise)an_l
engine beginsto ole and than tum out
(_terdeskwise)
until engine rune
rough. Tum needleto a pointmidway
between those two pesiitons.
5. Resheck idle speed. Reac_ustif neces-
sary.

(counterclockwise) 1/8 turn.Repeat test

High speed stop is factory adjusted. Do
not adjust ° damage may result.
IMPORTANT: Never tamper with the
engine governor, which is factory set for
proper engine speed. Overepeeding the
engine above the factory high speed
setting can be dangerous. If you think the
engine-governed
high speed needs
adjusting, contact a Sears or other
qualified service center, which has proper
equipment and expedence to make any
necessary adjustments.
