Using Serial Console Redirection

1. To use serial console redirection with the Sun Fire X2100 Server, change the BIOS
setting first, as follows:
a. Connect a local keyboard and monitor to the Sun Fire X2100 Server.
b. Reboot the server.
c. Press F2 when you see the Sun logo screen.
d. Select Advanced BIOS Features ->Console Redirect ->Enabled over COM1.
After the COM port is enabled, you can run an xterm window for console
redirection if you are running a Solaris or Linux operating system.
Note – With a tip setup, you may need to press the ESC key twice when moving to
a higher level window in the BIOS Setup utility.
Use the following key sequences for the function keys when using serial console
redirection with BIOS version 1.7 or greater.

2. Connect a terminal to the serial port if it is not already connected.
3. Power on the terminal system.
4. If you want to redirect the video output to the onboard video display, do the
