During Operation
Do not b ypass the starting circuit byshorting
across the terminals
ofthe starter motor to
start the engine. This m ay c ause the power
unit tomove suddenly.
Periodically
check the starting circuit tomake
sure all s ystem c omponents
operate
correctly.
Ifthe starting system d oes n ot w ork, consult
your Ariens Dealer immediately.
Operate the mower only i ndaylight orwhen
the area t obemowed islitwell by artificial
light.
Never remove the discharge
shield from the
mower because
the discharge
shield directs
material
down t oward the turf. Ifthe shield is
damaged,
besure toreplace itimmediately.
Never trytoclear the discharge
area o rthe
mower blades unless you have m oved the
steering control levers tothe park p osition,
put t he PTO switch inthe "Off" position,
switched
the ignition key tothe "Off" position,
removed
the ignition key and disconnected
the negative
battery cable.
Do not operate the power unit i naconfined
or
non-ventilated
area. Carbon monoxide
gas is
colorless,
odorless,
and can befatal.
Do not t urn sharply when d riving athigh
speeds.
Park t he mower onafirm level surface with
the steering control levers inthe park
position.
When backing, be sure toturn around and
look t othe rear. Do not m ow inreverse unless
itisabsolutely
necessary.
When working ingroups, use caution and
watch out f orothers.
Always beaware ofmower discharge
direction.
Make s ure itdoes n ot p oint at
anyone.
Be sure the engine and rotating blades have
stopped before putting hands orfeet n ear the
blade.
Disengage
the blade drive w hen t ransporting
the machine
across drives, sidewalks,
etc.
Never raise t he mower deck while t he blades
are turning.
Do not p ut h ands orfeet u nder orinto the
mower when i tisrunning.
Do not t ouch t he engine ormuffler when t he
engine isrunning orimmediately
after the
engine has stopped.
These areas may b ehot
enough tocause serious burns.
Do not d rive t he machine
onstreets or
highways.
Watch fortraffic when c rossing
streets orwhile m owing close t oroads.
Always inspect the mower fordamage after
striking aforeign object. Always repair or
replace damaged
parts b efore restarting
the
mower deck.
Do not o perate the power unit w ithout the
mower deck a ttached.
Make sure the machine and all a ttachments
come t oacomplete
stop b efore dismounting.
Before dismounting,
disengage
the PTO,
lower allattachments,
place t he steering
control levers inthe park p osition,
turn off t he
engine, and remove the key.
Operating O nSlopes
Avoid starting orstopping
when g oing u p or
down a slope. Keep a ll m ovements
ona
slope g radual and slow. Do not m ake s udden
changes inspeed ordirection.
Iftires l ose traction while o naslope,
disengage
the mower blades and back slowly
and gradually
down t he slope.
Do not t urn onslopes unless necessary,
and
then turn slowly and gradually
downhill if
possible.
Use e xtra c aution when m owing onslopes. If
you are unable toback u p onthe slope, orif
you donot f eel c omfortable
onit,then donot
mow it.Do not o perate the machine on
slopes that exceed 15 °.
