Troubleshooting
Problem
Flash does not fire.
Digital zoom cannot be used.
Image mode not available.
No sound when shutter is
released.
Images appear smeared.
Hues are unnatural.
Randomly spaced bright pixels
("noise") appear in image.
Images are too dark
(underexposed).
Images are too bright
(overexposed).

Cause/Solution
• The built-in flash is lowered, or flash mode is
set to W (Off).
• Some scene modes that cannot turn on flash
are selected.
• Sport continuous mode is selected.
• A feature that cannot be used with the flash is
selected.
Digital zoom cannot be used in the following
situations.
• When Portrait or Night portrait is selected
for Scene mode.
• When smart portrait mode is selected.
• When Multi-shot 16 is selected for
Continuous.
• When recording movies
• A feature that cannot be used with image
mode is selected.
• Available image modes differ according to the
current shooting mode.
• Off is selected for Sound settings > Shutter
sound in setup menu.
• Do not block the speaker.
Lens is dirty. Clean lens.
White balance does not match light source.
The subject is dark, so shutter speed is too slow
or ISO sensitivity is too high.
• Noise can be reduced by using flash.
• Select a lower ISO sensitivity.
• The built-in flash is lowered, or flash mode is
set to W (Off).
• Flash window is blocked.
• Subject is beyond flash range.
• Adjust exposure compensation.
• Raise the ISO sensitivity.
• Subject is backlit. Select the Backlight scene
mode, or set the flash mode to X (fill flash).
Adjust exposure compensation.
