3 Sharing Business Copy Z volumes

Business Copy Z volumes can be shared with other HP program products. This chapter discusses
requirements, recommendations, and restrictions for using Business Copy Z with other products.

Virtual LVI

Virtual LVI volumes can be assigned to Business Copy Z pairs, provided that the T-VOL has the
same capacity as the S-VOL.

Cache Residency

Volumes with Cache Residency settings can be used as Business Copy Z S-VOLs and T-VOLs.
NOTE:
See the discussion of Quick Restore in
information about performing quick restore operations on volumes that have Cache Residency
settings.

Auto LUN

Migration, destination, and reserved volumes of Auto LUN cannot be used for Business Copy Z
pair operations. To perform Business Copy Z operations, the Auto LUN volumes must be released
first.
You can assign Business Copy Z volumes as Auto LUN volumes, with the following restrictions.
If the Business Copy Z S-VOL is paired with three T-VOLs, you must delete the pair before
migrating the volumes with Auto LUN.
If you want to assign Business Copy Z volumes as destination volumes of a migration using
Auto LUN, or reserve Business Copy Z volumes for Auto LUN, you must delete the Business
Copy Z volumes or unreserve them before using Auto LUN.
If you assign a Business Copy Z S-VOL that is paired with three T-VOLs as a migration volume,
or assign Business Copy Z volumes to volumes other than Auto LUN migration volumes, the
command is rejected.
If you split a Business Copy Z pair in which the volumes are assigned as migration volumes,
migration of those volumes is canceled.

External Storage

If Business Copy Z is used with External Storage, you can create pairs to use the external volumes.
For information about the external volumes, see the HP StorageWorks P9000 External Storage for
Open and Mainframe Systems User Guide.

Continuous Access Synchronous Z

Continuous Access Synchronous Z volumes can be shared with Business Copy Z volumes.
You can share Business Copy Z S-VOLs and T-VOLs with Continuous Access Synchronous Z
M-VOLs and R-VOLs. However, you cannot share Business Copy Z T-VOLs with Continuous
Access Synchronous Z R-VOLs.
When you share a Business Copy Z S-VOL with a Continuous Access Synchronous Z R-VOL,
the write operation on the Continuous Access Synchronous Z M-VOL takes time. Especially,
when the Business Copy Z pair is in the V-Split status, the write operation on the Continuous
