Diagnostics and troubleshooting
Diagnostic information about the switch is available through the switch LEDs and the port LEDs. Diagnostic
information is also available through the CLI, QuickTools, or Simple SAN Connection Manager event logs
and error displays. This section describes the following types of diagnostics:
• Switch
diagnostics, page 41 describes the Input Power LED and System Fault LED indications.
• Power-On self test
indications.
This section also describes using maintenance mode to recover a disabled switch.
Switch diagnostics
The 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch has three switch LEDs that are used for diagnostics: Input Power LED,
Heartbeat LED, and the System Fault LED

The following conditions are described in this section:
• Input power LED is
• System fault LED is
Input power LED is extinguished
The Input Power LED illuminates to indicate that the switch logic circuitry is receiving proper voltages. If the
Input Power LED is extinguished:
1.
Inspect the power cords and connectors. Is the cord unplugged? Is the cord or connector damaged?
• Yes—Make necessary corrections or repairs. If the condition remains, continue.
• No—Continue.
2.
Inspect the AC power source. Is the power source delivering the proper voltage?
• Yes—Continue.
• No—Make necessary repairs. If the condition remains, contact your authorized maintenance
provider.
