Configuring and managing Console Replay

iLO 2 ver. 1.30 allows the capture of both of the following for replay and analysis:
• Last boot sequence for the iLO enabled target server, from POST through OS Load
• Rolling buffer of the last minutes of a server's operation before an OS failure or planned shutdown.
iLO can be configured to export captured files to any specified web server in the network.
There are several important considerations in organizing and managing the output created by these
new capture features:
• Once configured, iLO will continue to export these capture files to the specified web server every
time there is a re-boot or and OS failure. These files include a time stamp in their name and are
typically 2- 3 MB apiece.
• iLO does not actively manage the store of captured files. It will continue to write new capture files to
the web server as long as space is available. Fortunately, in a stable production environment, this
should not happen very often. However, there may be a need to create a Scheduled Task that
periodically performs a directory clean-up.
• Users may want to designate a small number of web servers to store all of the capture files for the
iLO-enabled serves in the network. This will help simplify the management for administrators.
However, please be aware that managing this file store and its directory structure for storing
capture files from many different iLO devices is a completely manual process.
