• Location of the Storage server for capture files is another decision that needs to be made. The iLO
devices write files to the configured web server, while administrative clients will be pulling those
files for replay from the configured server to the client workstations. In order to optimize playback
performance, it is probably a good idea to ensure that there is a low latency network path should
be available between the web server(s) being used for storage and the administrative workstations
from which the capture files will be accessed.
Creating a central repository for use with iLO's virtual
media feature
In addition to supporting use of virtual media physically located on a local workstation, iLO also
supports the use of virtual media files located on a web server anywhere in the network.
This essentially allows the creation a "virtual media server" in the network that can server as a
common store for the media images that administrators are likely to need to use as virtual media with
an iLO-enable server.
This feature has another advantage, in that the iLO sources the virtual media directly from the
designated web server, not the administrator's client machine, potentially better virtual media
performance by locating the Virtual Media Server close to the managed iLO's in the network.
The Virtual Media Server functionality, also referred to as Scriptable Virtual media, is only available
through the iLO Scripting interface and is documented in complete detail in the iLO Scripting User's
Guide.

Scripted Virtual Media

Virtual Media scripting is a method for controlling Virtual Media devices without going through the
browser. Scriptable Virtual Media supports insert, eject, and status commands for floppy, CD and
DVD-ROM images.

XML scripting

The XML commands enable configuration of Virtual Media in the same manner as the Virtual Media
applet. The one exception is that the actual image will be located on a Web server that the iLO can
communicate with via the management network. Virtual Media scripting does not support composite
devices; it supports only single Virtual Media devices (either Virtual Media Floppy or Virtual Media
CD-ROM).
The Remote Insight Board Command Language (RIBCL) enables the creation of scripts to manage user
accounts and to configure settings. These are XML commands common to most Lights-Out
Management (LOM) products and servers. Sample scripts for all iLO commands are available for
download from the iLO website, under the "Sample scripts" link: http://www.hp.com/go/ilo.
RIBCL scripts are passed to the iLO using the Lights-Out Configuration Utility (CPQLOCFG.EXE), a
Windows-based utility that uses a secure connection over the network. The CPQLOCFG utility can be
launched from Systems Insight Manager for Group Administration or used independently from a
command prompt for batch processing. This utility is available for download from the HP website:
