If archiving is enabled, the closed files are archived whenever the server starts. They are also
archived at midnight UTC every night. These files are already compressed in the local storage
location, but the indexes for these files are compressed before being moved to the archive. If the
archive location is not configured or if there is any problem while archiving, attempts are made
every 60 seconds until archiving succeeds.

3.1.4 Data Retention

The data retention policies control when data is deleted from the system. There is one policy for the
raw data; there may be multiple policies that apply to the event data.

3.2 Configuring Data Archiving

You can enable data archiving on Sentinel Log Manager for both the raw data and event data. You
can configure following three types of archive locations:
User-configured SAN mount location or a local directory on the Sentinel Log Manager server.
(This is the recommended configuration.)
Remotely configured CIFS share.
Remotely configured NFS share.
For more information about the archive server configuration settings, see
Server
Settings" in the
Sentinel Log Manager 1.0.0.4 Installation
WARNING: Only one Sentinel Log Manager should be configured to archive to a particular archive
directory (remote share). Configuring the same archive location across multiple Sentinel Log
Manager servers can cause system failure.
