    Disassembly Procedures Safety Guidelines This chapter contains step by step procedures on how to remove and de-install components from the computer. Use the following safety guidelines to ensure your personal safety. Each procedure included in this chapter assumes that you are preparing your computer for recycling and disposal.

  • Page 7 Pre-disassembly Instructions Do the following prior to starting any maintenance procedures: 1. Place the system on a stable work surface. 2. Remove the AC adapter from any of the ports (A) or (B) of the system (Figure 1-1). 3. Remove all cables from system. Figure 1-1.

    Battery Pack Removal Prerequisite: Base Cover Removal 1. Find the battery pack (A) on the top assembly (Figure 1-5). 2. Detach the acetate tape (B) securing the battery cable in place (Figure 1-5). Figure 1-5. Battery Pack Removal 3. Disconnect the battery cable from the mainboard connector (C) (Figure 1-6).

    WLAN Module Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Disconnect the WLAN antenna cables from the WLAN module connectors (A) (Figure 1-11). 2.     USB Board Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Disconnect the USB FFC from the USB board connector (A) (Figure 1-13). CAUTION: USB board FFC can be damaged if disconnected while the mainboard connector is locked. 2. Remove one (1) screw from the USB board (Figure 1-13).
  • Page 15 3. Slightly lift the USB board to release it from the guides (marked with green circle / semicircle). Then slide the USB board backwards to release its I/O connectors from the I/O slots and remove it (Figure 1-14). WEEE Annex VII Component: USB Board Figure 1-14.

    LCD Module Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Disconnect the WLAN antenna cables from the WLAN board connectors (A) (Figure 1-15). 2. Release the WLAN antenna cables from the rubber guides and then from the remaining cable guide on the top assembly (Figure 1-15).
  • Page 17 3. Disconnect the eDP cable from the mainboard connector (B) and unroute from the cable guide (Figure 1-16). CAUTION: eDP cable can be damaged if removed while the mainboard connector is locked. Figure 1-16. LCD Module Removal 4. Remove eight (8) screws securing the LCD hinges in place (Figure 1-17).
  • Page 18 5. Lift both LCD hinges until they are fully extended (Figure 1-18). Figure 1-18. LCD Module Removal CAUTION: Make sure all cables and antennas are moved away from the device to avoid damage during removal. 6. Remove the LCD module away from the top assembly (Figure 1-19).

    Touchpad Module Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Detach the mylar tape (A) from the keyboard backlight FFC (Figure 1-20). Figure 1-20. Touchpad Module Removal 2. Disconnect the keyboard FPC from the mainboard connector (B) (Figure 1-21). CAUTION: Keyboard FPC can be damaged if removed while the mainboard connector is locked.
  • Page 20 3. Disconnect the touchpad FFC (C) from the mainbaord and touchpad module connectors. Then detach the portion of the touchpad FFC from the top assembly and remove it (Figure 1-22). CAUTION: Touchpad FFC can be damaged if removed while the mainboard and touchpad connectors are locked.
  • Page 21 5. Remove three (3) screws securing the touchpad module in place (Figure 1-24). Figure 1-24. Touchpad Module Removal 6. Using the screwdriver, push the screw sleeve (E) firmly to release it from the top assembly (Figure 1-25). 7. Slide the touchpad module slightly to disengage it from the bottom latches (F), and then remove the touchpad module (G) from the top assembly (Figure 1-25).

    RTC Battery Removal Prerequisite: Battery Pack Removal 1. Using plastic tweezers, carefully pry to detach the adhesive tape underneath the RTC battery (A) but DO NOT remove yet (Figure 1-26). 2. Disconnect the RTC battery cable from the mainboard connector (B) (Figure 1-26).

    Mainboard Removal Prerequisite: Ensure that the SSD Module, Fan Module, Heatsink, and WLAN Module have been disassembled prior removing the top assembly. 1. Remove four (4) screws securing the LCD hinge in place (Figure 1-27). Figure 1-27. Mainboard Removal 2. Lift the LCD hinge until it is fully extended (Figure 1-28).

Disconnect the keyboard backlight FFC from the mainboard connector (C) (Figure 1-30). 7. Disconnect the keyboard FPC from the mainboard connector (D) (Figure 1-30).
