1.5.1. Minimum Network and Workstation Requirements

To successfully use the 5big Storage Server, your network must meet the following requirements:
Network
Server connection
Router/Firewall device
IP address
Internet access
Minimum Operating System Requirements for Workstations on the Network
The latest versions of Windows XP , Windows Vista, and Windows 7
The latest versions of Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6
Linux 2.6

Minimum Requirements
100 Mbps Ethernet wired connection. LaCie highly recommends using
1 Gb/s for better performance.
A switch with wired Ethernet connectivity for the workstations to
communicate with the 5big Storage Server. LaCie highly recommends
using 1 Gb/s for better performance.
The 5big Storage Server assumes that network devices receive their
IP addresses from a DHCP server. For a static IP configuration, see
1.14. Setting a Static IP Address.
The 5big Storage Server must have access to the Internet for critical
updates to Windows Storage Server 2008.
