Introduction

This document provides instructions for removing a system fan module and installing a replacement in your SonicWall network security appliance. The SonicWall NSsp and high-end NSa appliances contain two or three cooling fans accessible from the back of the appliance. The multiple fan modules ensure system temperature control.
informationNOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the power before replacing a fan.

Removing the System Fan from the Appliance

To remove a fan module from the SonicWall appliance:

  1. Loosen the retaining thumbscrew with your fingers or a Phillips (cross) screwdriver, if necessary.
  2. Noting the fan's orientation in the appliance, pull the handle all the way open until pointing straight back. This disengages the fan's contacts.
  3. Wait several seconds for the fan to stop spinning.
  4. Pull the fan module outwards to completely remove it from the appliance, then set it aside.

Inserting a System Fan into the Appliance


Do NOT insert anything except the Fan Module into the appliance.
To install a new fan module into the SonicWall appliance:

  1. With the appliance turned off, insert the fan module into the empty slot using the same orientation you noted when you removed the defective module.
  2. Push the fan module firmly into place until it is completely seated and snaps into place.
  3. Return the retaining bracket across the fan module and tighten the retaining screw with a screwdriver to securely fasten the bracket.
  4. Confirm that the new fan is operating correctly.

This fan is for use only with SonicWall appliances indicated below. Use of this fan with a SonicWall appliance that is not approved will void the warranty for that appliance. This fan is provided as a replacement fan, and is provided on an "as is" basis without warranty of any kind.
This fan, 01-SSC-0025 SONICWALL HIGH-END NSA NSSP SERIES FAN FRU, is approved for use with:
SonicWall NSsp 13700 and lower-numbered NSsp models
SonicWall NSa 4700 and higher NSa x700 models
SonicWall NSa 4650 and higher NSa xx50 models
